Who We Are
Voices of DSHA

Christmas Greetings from DSHA

President Ellen Bartel
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel.” ~ Matthew 1:23

Immauel. It means “God with us”. God in human form, walking among His creation.
Each year, I find this hard to comprehend. Because the idea is so extraordinary. And not only because God took on human form, but because He did it in such an extra-ordinary way. He did not come to a castle; He came to a stable. He did not need a feast; simply brave, young and willing parents. He did not have an army to lead, rather animals and shepherds standing watch.

God came to us in a way that teaches us how to live and what is important. The extra-ordinary life is important. During this Christmas season, as we hear the story of a “babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12), let us reflect on how we might love and serve those around us – meeting them where they are, as God did for us – in the form of a tiny human who would one day carry the literal weight of the world on His shoulders.

At DSHA, our mission is to make known the goodness and kindness of Jesus Christ, and never is that more apparent than as when we await the hope and joy that is the birth of our Savior. In this season of service and generosity, the Christmas favorite, Joy to the World, exclaims my prayer for our community:  “let every heart, prepare Him room!” Let’s continue to be a body that allows room for God to work and dwell: to be His hands and feet in service to those in need, and to always shine bright His light.

Finally, I invite you click here to view some of our first semester highlights, set to the Angels' Carol, performed by the DSHA Angelaires.

I hope your Christmas celebration is filled with the beauty of the extra-ordinary: family, friends, and togetherness. And may it also be filled with the most extraordinary hope and peace that we have in the birth of Christ.

Blessings to you and yours,

Ellen Bartel
