Liturgical Seasons

In Campus Ministry, as with the Catholic Church, our prayer and programming is shaped by the Liturgical Year.

While much of our programming takes place on a regular basis, such as monthly all-school Masses, our school transforms during the seasons of Advent and Lent to help us better prepare for the great celebrations of the Church. During these seasons, students enter into our Campus Ministry Advent and Lenten projects by participating in events that connect prayer and service to the greater community.

2024 Lenten Project

This Lent, our students will collaborate with the Sisters of the Divine Savior to help bring an irrigation system to their Farming Project in southern Tanzania. This important project enables the Sisters to educate local farmers on sustainable and regenerative agriculture. This work allows families to live more abundantly and grow their wealth instead of living year to year on their harvest.

DSHA students can combine their prayer, fasting, and almsgiving by joining two water challenges:
  • Water Wednesday | Dashers are invited to drink only water as their beverage on Wednesdays throughout Lent and donate the money they would spend on other things to the Water Project. If just one grade level participates, we can irrigate an entire banana plantation. Students will be at the doors collecting donations every Wednesday morning.
  • Walking in Solidarity | Women in Tanzania walk 3.7 miles a day on average to access clean water supplies. A bucket of water will travel the halls of DSHA this Lent to allow dashers to experience just a tiny bit of what it feels like to carry water each day. When a student sees the “Walking in Solidarity Bucket” she can carry it to her next class, leave it in the hallway, and say a quick prayer for all women who carry water to survive each day. The next Dasher who sees it picks it up and does the same. Hopefully, every Dasher can contribute to carrying the water this Lent and remember how blessed we are to have access to clean, readily available water.
