Sister Maryann Engelhardt, SDS, DS ’52
Ministry: Nursing
Sister Maryann Engelhardt, SDS, DS '52, decided to focus on nursing to help others stay well in mind, body, and spirit. She found mental health to be the area of most need in her patients, thus worked in psychiatric departments and mental health programs in Wausau. In addition, she held leadership roles during her ministry—she served on the first board of directors of Wausau Hospital, as well as serving as a provincial leader of the Sisters of the Divine Savior.
Most recently, she supported her religious community as the population of sisters ages. She used her medical knowledge to care for those facing urgent or serious health care issues.
Qualities of a DSHA Graduate: She is a leader, both in the health care community and in her own family of sisters.
