Student Services

At DSHA, we believe that young women thrive when they are known, supported, and loved. As a Catholic school sponsored by the Sisters of the Divine Savior, we are committed to accompanying students as they grow in faith, heart, and intellect. We believe that one of the most meaningful ways to do this is through sustained relationships with caring adults who know each student personally – her school counselor, House Dean, Den Supervisor, and teachers.

Our counseling model is designed with accompaniment in mind and to ensure that every Dasher has a trusted advocate throughout her four years at DSHA. Student Services at DSHA is student-centered, community-focused, and fully dedicated to the social, emotional, academic, college, and career needs of our students. The entire staff will guide students to accept life's challenges with confidence as advocates, collaborators, advisors, teachers, coaches, and supporters.

At the beginning of high school, programming and support ensure every girl can navigate her college-prep experience in a healthy community with resources tailored to fit her needs. As students move through their high school careers, Student Services offerings shift toward an intentional and individual focus on college and career readiness.

DSHA's Approach to School Counseling & Key Benefits

Consistent relationships

Students will build a relationship with one counselor who accompanies them throughout all four years of high school.

Personalized support

Each counselor will serve approximately 135 students, with 30-35 students per grade level. This caseload allows counselors to know students personally and provide individualized guidance. This ratio is well below the nationally recommended ratio of 250:1.

Earlier college planning

Rather than beginning a relationship with a college counselor during junior year, students will work with their counselor, who already knows their interests, goals, strengths, and aspirations.

Holistic student care

Because counselors will support students academically, socially, emotionally, and throughout the college discernment process, they are positioned to provide guidance that reflects the whole student.
