DSHA Soccer Team Wins State Championship

Meaghan Lagore, DSHA '16
Congratulations to our championship-winning Dashers!
In his first year in the position, Head Coach Steve Lawrence led this championship team through an incredible season. "The key [to the stat championship] was the team chemistry," he said. "Every day at practice, these girls want to be together, and they showed it.”

The Dashers saw win after win, finishing with an overall record of 19-2-2 and a conference record of 7-0-1, earning the title of Greater Metro Conference Champions for the second year in a row. Highlights of the season included traveling to Colorado for the second annual Catholic Cup and the annual trip to Bettendorf, Iowa.

Heading into postseason play, the Dashers quickly secured Regional and Sectional championships, capped by a 2-1 victory over Arrowhead High School in the Sectional Final. Entering the 2026 State Girls Soccer Tournament as the No. 1 seed, DSHA beat Kimberly 3-0 in the state semi-finals. The Dashers claimed the 2026 Division 1 WIAA Soccer State title with a 3-1 win over four-time defending state champion Muskego High School on June 20. In their final match of the season, goals were scored by Reese Roethe, DSHA ’29, Mary Stith, DSHA ’26, and Sarah McElherne, DSHA ’28. Since the end of their season, the DSHA Varsity Soccer Team has been ranked No. 9 in the nation, according to the United Soccer Coaches.

Steve is joined by Dave Burkle, Academic Interventionist Katie Klinger Leszczynski, DSHA ’10, and Science Faculty Maria Kass, DSHA ’15, on his coaching staff.
