Communications

Communications is an elected commission of Student Council whose members are in charge of informing DSHA students about events occurring inside and outside of the school community. The responsibilities of this committee include: Morning Announcements, Need to Know, My Secret Valentine and the Happy Board. The Communications Commission also coordinates the DSHA Club Fair, in which all 36 DSHA Clubs have the opportunity to recruit new members.

Communications Duties:

  • Morning Announcements: The announcements are made daily by commission members over the loudspeaker.  They include information about assemblies or class meetings that day, the cafeteria menu, athletic events, practice changes for sports teams, and birthdays.
  • Need to Know: An informative weekly email that is sent out to students.
  • My Secret Valentine: My Secret Valentine is an initiative by students to create closer bonds with the DSHA faculty and staff. Students research their staff member's interests and provide small daily gifts in order to enhance teacher appreciation at DSHA.
  • The Happy Board: The Happy Board is a birthday board that makes birthdays known throughout the school year.
  • Club Fair: The annual club fair allows students to learn about each of DSHA's clubs and activities and helps clubs recruit new members.  A full list of DSHA clubs and co-curriculars can be found here

"Communications commission has gotten me a lot more involved at DSHA. I love doing Announcements and helping to better the school, like through projects such as the Student-Teacher Secret Valentine. If you're a social person, you'll have a lot of fun on Communications!"

I would encourage a student to apply for Communications because it is a great opportunity for her to be an encouraging and upbeat influence in the school. She gets to be a positive reflection of her class through her hard work and devotion to DSHA.
