Whole-Person Education

The art of forensics fosters a student's skills as a public speaker, communicator, community leader, and spoken word artist. Students on the DSHA Forensics team prepare and deliver speeches or dramatic presentations that inform, influence, and entertain. There are a variety of competition categories from which students can choose, including but not limited to, poetry, special occasion, play acting, or extemporaneous speaking. The team competes against other southeastern Wisconsin high schools at tournaments held during the spring semester. Preparation for competition takes place during the fall semester and includes coach-guided selection and editing of material and rehearsal. The team typically competes at the state tournament, held in Ripon, as well as at the locally hosted National Forensics League qualifier. DSHA student competitors are able to qualify for entry into the National Forensics League Honor Society, which sponsors scholarships and a national competition.

2017-2018 Recap

In January of 2018, The DSHA / MUHS Forensics Team took 1st place at the Marquette Invitational Tournament.

Erin, Class of 2020, Wauwatosa

Forensics has helped immensely with my public speaking skills, and becoming confident with myself and my voice. These skills are so important, especially for women. Half the time, you don't even realize how confident you are becoming throughout the season!

Eileen, Class of 2020, Whitefish Bay

If I had to sum up forensics in one word, it would probably be 'camaraderie.' There is so much time spent together, in practices, tournaments, etc., that connecting with the team is super important, and, if you do, it just makes the experience that much more fun.
