Return to School Plan | 2020-2021

Fully In-Person / "Green" Plan

No Physical Distancing in Classrooms

Plan Description: It is our hope to return to a fully in-person, face-to-face instruction, five days per week, as soon as possible after the beginning of the school year. It is also our primary goal to stay open which will depend, due in part, to our community’s commitment to keeping DSHA healthy. We do not expect to open in this format but will step into this format once the City of Milwaukee Health Department permits.

This plan includes all of the essential elements of the DSHA, whole-person approach to educating young women of faith, heart, and intellect, with classroom learning and student activities in person, and with some potential modifications or restrictions based on current Center for Disease Control (CDC) and City of Milwaukee Health Department requirements as noted in the safety section of this plan.

Depending on COVID-19 factors, we may continue to operate under the full, extended instruction schedule for the second semester as well.

Fully In-Person Plan | How will it work?

List of 4 items.

  • Extended Instruction Schedule

For the first semester we will run a full, extended instruction schedule for the following reasons:
    • Best facilitates teaching and learning that needs to take place for students in the classroom and for students at home due to compromised auto-immune systems, a family member with a compromised auto-immune system, or a day-to-day basis due to illness. Provides educational focus for students and teachers.
    • Minimizes movement throughout our building during the school day.
    • Creates continuity should we need to move into or out of another scenario.
  • Physical Distancing Considerations

In the Green plan, we would not have physical distancing in classrooms; however, large gatherings like Mass and lunch would not be allowed (where the entire school or half of the student body would congregate.)
    • Mass | This will be held per grade level only, with the liturgy live-streamed from the Theater to classrooms.
    • Lunch | This will be held in teacher classrooms, where students will get to eat with students from their grade level, in a homeroom model that will allow for continuity and a built-in “lunch bunch” each day. (Lunch will be supervised by the teacher in the classroom.)

Highest Risk Scenario

A fully open DSHA – all students and faculty – to deliver our mission, in-person, with face-to-face instruction, five days per week, is the highest risk scenario as it does not allow for physical distancing in the classrooms and students mix from class-to-class and across activities.

With a strong desire on the part of the DSHA community to open, with many health safety efforts implemented, with few cases within the DSHA community, and with moderate community spread in the broader Milwaukee community, DSHA will use this scenario as the preferred scenario all year.

Currently (as of August 1, 2020), the City of Milwaukee restrictions prevent us from choosing this option.
