2023 DSHA Winter Athletics Recap

This winter athletics season, Dasher athletes brought an exciting and successful sports season to DSHA! With two regional wins, a state championship, and several outstanding performances from individual athletes, DSHA experienced another accomplished sports season.

SKI | STATE CHAMPION

The DSHA Varsity Ski team finished the regular season with five 1^st place finishes and one 2^nd place finish. Their success qualified them to compete in the Wisconsin Alpine Racing Association State Championship on February 20 where they came in 1^st place. The state championship marks the fourth in the last six years. The team finished 2^nd overall in the Slalom, 5^th overall in the Grand Slalom, and 1^st overall in the Super Giant Slalom (Super-G Race) to bring home the trophy!

BASKETBALL

The DSHA Varsity Basketball team won the WIAA Regional Championship on February 24 for the fifth year in a row after defeating Hartford 74-64! Ally Timm, DSHA '24, hit 1,000 points in her DSHA Varsity Basketball career during the game. The team finished their season against Germantown on March 2.

Overall Record: 15-11

GYMNASTICS

The DSHA/West Allis Co-Op Varsity Gymnastics team consists of four girls from DSHA including Lucy Elgersma, DSHA ’26; Emily Grining, DSHA ’25; Daniella Riemer, DSHA ’25; and Sophia Wrench, DSHA ’25. Their season finished on Friday, February 17 at the Greater Metro Conference (GMC) tournament. While there, Riemer placed 2^nd on the vault and Wrench placed 6^th on the floor.

ICE HOCKEY

The University School of Milwaukee/DSHA Co-Op Ice Hockey Varsity Team, which consists of eight DSHA girls, won the WIAA Regional Championship against the Lakeshore Lightning on February 17. On February 21, the team also defeated the Fond du Lac Warbirds 2-0 to secure the WIAA Sectional semi-final game. Goalie Molly Jex, DSHA ’24, secured all 24 saves throughout the game in the shutout victory. The team finished their season on February 24 against Bay Area.

Overall Record: 20-6-1

SNOWBOARD

Chloe Rummel, DSHA ’25, competes on the West Bend Varsity Snowboarding team as the only DSHA student. Rummel took 3rd place in boardercross, 4th place in giant slalom, 6th place in slalom, and 4th place overall at the Wisconsin Alpine Racing Association State Championship meet in LaCrosse in mid-February. Earlier in the season, Rummel was the Midwest High School Ski & Snowboard Conference Champion in boardercross, and took 3rd overall for slalom, and 3rd for giant slalom in the overall conference standings. She was the only female to place in all three disciplines.
