Sister Jeanette Clarke, SDS, DS ’59

Ministry: Nursing

Like her fellow sisters, Sister Jeanette Clarke, SDS, DS ’59, worked to change the world. This meant following her passion for social justice and caring for those with mental illnesses—all with support from her sisters that allowed her to continue this important work.
While she had a wealth of medical knowledge, the positive interactions she had with her patients added much to her ministry. She worked to maintain healthy relationships among families with members who struggled with mental health. Throughout her work, she discovered that compassion and kindness are just as important as medication and therapy in helping people overcome crisis and cope with mental illness.

Qualities of a DSHA Graduate: She is a self-advocate. She used her voice to state her values and beliefs, advocating for those with mental illness before mental health became less stigmatized.
