Father,
We thank you for the opportunity
to begin this new school year,
and we ask that you bless
the students, faculty, and student families
that make our school a great place.
We pray that you will guide us in your ways,
so that we will seek your will
in everything that we do,
and love others as you love us.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

    Change to Salvatorian Service Requirement
An adjustment to the graduation requirement for service was made for the new 2018-2019 academic year. The new policy states:
Students will receive .25 credit at the end of each school year for completing their service requirement. A grade of “Pass” will appear on a student’s transcript and become part of her permanent record for each year that the requirement is completed by the due date. If a student does not complete the annual service requirement by the due date, she will receive a “Fail” grade on her transcript, and it will become part of her permanent record. In order to change this, a student will need to complete service hours above and beyond her grade requirement. This will be determined by the Director of Salvatorian Service on an individual basis. In addition to this, the “F” will remain on her transcript and she will be ineligible to participate in co-curricular activities until a “Pass” is achieved for her Service Credit. Students who receive an “F” for service will also need to meet with the Director of Campus Ministry and complete an additional written service reflection on her hours.
Questions? Contact Stephanie Monson, Director of Salvatorian Service (monsons@dsha.info; 414-721-7973).

Campus Ministry Leaders' Retreat (August 26)
Sunday August 26 is an all day retreat for Campus Ministry Leaders. Mass at 5 p.m.; potluck to follow.

Recap of a very successful year!
We have several important figures to share with you to summarize our year in Campus Ministry! First of all, we were graced with three beautiful babies! Michael Ritter, Brendan Lennon and Vibiana Monson!

We have also worked hard to make a difference in the local and global communities. For 2018-2019, we collected a total of 7,742 canned goods for the Mother of Good Counsel pantry. Time for Change Tuesdays also made huge strides to fight hunger in Milwaukee. This year, DSHA made a total of 3,794 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to feed the hungry. For this year’s Advent project, we chose Make a Wish, and we funded an entire wish for Kieran to go to Disney. Thank you for supporting this organization.

This Lent, we far surpassed our goal of $15,000 and raised a record high number of $20,000 – the most in the history of DSHA! This money that we are donating to Catholic Relief Services made 30,000 meals to feed the hungry in Burkina Faso! We would all personally like to thank everyone who purchased a sticker or bracelet, was involved in the Student Action, and bought Lenten links. We also especially want to thank everyone who came to pack meals for our food pack. All your time and donations really added to our Lenten Project success.

This year, service has been a huge success. Every single class exceeded the required amount of service hours, with 21,900 hours.  We would like to recognize the student from each class with the most hours:

Class of 2018 – Cookie Topp 76.25 hours
Class of 2019 – Jane Florance– 68 hours
Class of 2020 – Murphy Mellowes- 80 hours
    Class of 2021 – Doireann Doherty - 53.5 hours

Creator of all, thank You for summer!
Draw me closer to You this summer. Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing. Warm my soul with the awareness of Your presence, and light my path with Your Word and Counsel. As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.
    Amen.

    Bountiful Lord,
When thousands stood before you, hungry and tired You first invited your disciples
    to feed them
And then you showed them how.
Show us how to play a part in your miracles.
Lord, we do not confront the hunger of 5,000 today
    But the hunger of nations.
    But we have many hands
    And full hearts
And we have your Gospel to show us the way.
    Bless not only our hands
But those of our hungry brothers and sisters.
The hands that plant, nurture and harvest
Working for a future that is
    free from hunger.
May all the members of your family eat until they are satisfied.
    Amen

    Lent Project
Our Lenten project this year is Catholic Relief Services. As part of the universal mission of the Catholic Church, CRS works with local, national and international Catholic institutions and structures, as well as other organizations, to assist people on the basis of need, race or nationality. Part of Catholic Relief Services is their “Helping Hands” aspect, which allows us to serve our brothers and sisters overseas, and work together to try and end world hunger!
Volunteers come together to package meals for people in Burkina Faso, a West African country that suffers from chronic food shortages as a result of constant drought and flooding. These meals meet the short-term needs of those we serve, and a portion of the event fee helps fund income-generating projects that allow them to become self-sustaining. We are planning a food pack for this organization on April 21, here at DSHA.

We project that as a school community we will make at least 50,000 meals. However, the amount of meals we are able to provide relies solely on our ability to raise money to fund this event. All of the funds that are raised in various ways this Lent will go to supporting the food pack. Our student auction is our biggest fund raiser for Lent and we encourage you to donate any services or baskets. This year, the student auction is on Wednesday, March 21st. It takes place in the commons, with the bidding beginning at 7:50 and ending at 3:15. The girls will be given a chance to visit the auction during their theology class.

In addition to our auction in order to reach our monetary goal, we will be selling Threads of Hope bracelets throughout all of February. During the second half of Lent, we will be selling stickers and shirts. Stickers will be sold for $2 and $3 depending on the design. The Threads of Hope bracelets will be sold for $4 and each bracelet funds the packing of 7 meals!
Finally, we will be selling t-shirts prior to the Food Pack event. Every food pack volunteer will need to buy a t-shirt, but we encourage our whole DSHA community to get one of these t-shirts to spread awareness for world hunger. Once again, all of these profits will go directly to CRS by funding our food pack event in April

Stations of the Cross ( February 22)
We are offering walking Stations of the Cross for the students to participate in during Dasher time.

Faith Friday (February 23 and March 2)

    Sophomore Retreat Prayer
    Loving and Almighty God,
There are times when I feel great despair.
Problems seem to escalate and seem too hard to hear.
The pain becomes great and doesn’t seem to go away.
It feels like a constant fight to just make it through each day

It is at these times I must trust that Jesus is here
Because He loves me and He truly does care.
He will stretch out His hand to me
And He will give the strength I need to make it through.
His love for me cannot even be put to measure,
I am more precious than gold, and I am His great treasure.
    Amen.

    Prayer After a Natural Disaster
God our Father, you created the world and established the order that rules the universe.

We ask for your providing care for our brothers and sisters who are suffering from the effects of natural disasters. We pray especially for those who have died, and for those who grieve them. Help all those who have lost homes and possessions, and aid those who work to restore basic services. Protect those who are most vulnerable and keep us all safe in your love.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our
Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
