As Maddie Drezek, DSHA '18, heads to Fordham University on an Army ROTC Scholarship, she shares one last expression of gratitude to everyone who made her DSHA journey possible.
Gracious benefactors of the DSHA community,
My name is Madeline Drezek, and I recently graduated with the class of 2018. It is difficult to sum up the lasting impact of my DSHA experience, given that the magnitude of its effect is so great. Being a Dasher was a confidence bootcamp in its own way. Whether it was reciting a ten minute oral presentation in a foreign language or singing at Mass in front of the whole school, every opportunity at DSHA built my confidence and pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Although it was challenging at times, this vulnerability allowed for a significant growth in my character. Now, I feel prepared to seize the future where life takes me next. This fall, I will be attending Fordham University in New York City, and simultaneously training for the military through an Army ROTC Scholarship. DSHA also taught me to take pride in being a woman, and I couldn’t feel more prepared to be female in a male-dominated field. I am empowered, clothed in strength and courage, because of my DSHA education. Without it, I would not know my own capability and confidence as I do now. It was a privilege to attend DSHA, and I would like to thank you all for your generosity in making that happen. Without financial assistance from gracious donors, I do not know where I would be right now. Words remain unable to capture the essence of my thanks and appreciation for your generosity and for my DSHA experience. My hope for the future is that more girls have access to this truly transformative education! Thank you!
