Meet the DSHA Campus Ministry Officers

Each year, the DSHA Campus Ministry Officers work alongside the Campus Ministry faculty and staff to plan, coordinate, and lead a school year’s-worth of faith formation activities for their classmates. This group of seniors applies for their positions via an extensive written application and interview process toward the end of their junior year.

Come senior year, these officers are the driving force behind all things Campus Ministry — retreats and service, prayer and worship, and a host of other opportunities rooted in the Salvatorian mission to make known the goodness and kindness of Jesus Christ. And all with the hope of involving and engaging their classmates in their personal faith journey and the community at large.

On Friday, May 17, the exiting 2018-2019 officers and the incoming 2019-2020 officers met for a celebratory gathering following the closing Mass of the school year. They prayed, broke bread (in the form of cupcakes!) together, exchanged gifts, and reflected on the year that was, and the year that is to come.

GRADUATING CLASS OF 2019 CAMPUS MINISTRY OFFICERS:
HOW HAS YOUR FAITH GROWN FROM BEING A CAMPUS MINISTRY OFFICER?
(Note: The graduating class is pictured in the top row; answers correspond to the order of the girls in the photo, from left to right.)

MAURA BRENNAN, DSHA ’19 | SERVICE OFFICER
“Being an officer has honestly been the best part of high school. I used to see CMC as something to be utilized independently to improve my faith, alone through reflection on retreat or prayer. Being an officer has taught me that the best way to feel Christ's love is by spending time with others who seek it out. I've learned the beauty of growing closer to others in relationships built on faith.”

CLAIRE LOIS, DSHA ’19 | PRAYER OFFICER
“I have learned to lead others in faith. My faith isn't just for me anymore, it is for others as well. I can help other people segue in their everyday lives and that is amazing.”

JACKIE DOOGE, DSHA ’19 | COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
“My faith has grown tremendously… instead of being ninety percent invested in Mass, I am now one hundred percent. I have been more conscious of my actions and how other people view me, and it has caused me to make a greater effort to keep strengthening my faith.”

REEGAN SCHMIDT, DSHA ’19 | PRAYER OFFICER
“I see the immense amount of faith my classmates have and what we can do when we come together to pray and give to others. And I’ve also seen how there is not only one way to live out your faith. Being an officer has been one of the greatest blessings.”

NORA BAUER, DSHA ’19 | SERVICE OFFICER
“My faith has grown to be active. I have discovered that I am a good administrator and event planner by participating in and planning events all year. This realization has also helped me discover that my faith can combine with my abilities to have a real effect on my local community.”

BRIDGET FLYKE, DSHA ’19 | PRAYER OFFICER
“My faith has grown tremendously. Seeing others who were passionate about their own faith strengthened mine. Whether it was Rosary, praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Worship Wednesday, or sandwich-making, I tried to make the most of my last year in Campus Ministry. Sitting in silence in the chapel and speaking to Christ also greatly strengthened my relationship with Him.”

ALLISON KOPPA, DSHA ’19 | COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
“I became more interested in growing in my faith after seeing the immense strength of others. Before I was just going through the motions without putting any real thought into it. DSHA taught me to be more open about my faith. Being an officer this year was the biggest positive experience of my high school career.”

INCOMING CLASS OF 2020 CAMPUS MINISTRY OFFICERS:
WHAT IS YOUR HOPE FOR YOUR FELLOW CLASSMATES AS IT RELATES TO THE WORK CAMPUS MINISTRY WILL DO THIS COMING SCHOOL YEAR?
(Note: The incoming class is pictured in the bottom row; answers correspond to the order of the girls in the photo, from left to right).

ELLEN FRICKER, DSHA ’20 | PRAYER OFFICER
“I hope we can involve more people in praying the Rosary and devotions throughout the day — experiencing these small daily habits can help grow your relationship with God and sustain our faith during turbulent times.”

OLIVIA LARSON, DSHA ’20 | COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
“I want to get people involved in the small things — like sandwich making — because it helps create a sense of community and belonging. High school can be tough and we are so lucky that we get to build faith with God and people during the school day.”

MARY ELIZABETH STERN, DSHA ’20 | SERVICE OFFICER
“I want to create a welcoming presence and space for girls to connect to God and others, that we can all be more present and mindful. I hope we can break down guards and be our authentic selves and form connections. I hope Campus Ministry will continue to be a great unifier.”

MURPHY MELLOWES, DSHA ’20 | SERVICE OFFICER
“I hope to be the model of faith that I saw as a freshman because we can all have a strong faith life. My mom often reminds me to, ‘Find the face of the Lord in those you least expect,’ and I hope that my classmates can experience this while doing service next year.”

CAROLINE FLYKE, DSHA ’20 | PRAYER OFFICER
“My hope is that students become more excited about the prayer aspect of Campus Ministry, especially our weekly optional liturgy. I hope that girls can experience how embracing your faith is so important — especially when our outside world tells us otherwise sometimes.”

LUCY RADOCHA, DSHA ’20 | COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
“I hope that everyone finds their place and a way to grow — and to know that it is okay that we all grow differently. I want students to immerse themselves in the community that Campus Ministry is.”

SORAYA KEISER, DSHA ’20 | COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (not pictured)
“Campus Ministry has something for every girl. Especially as freshmen — I hope that from the start of their high school career more girls get involved with all of the great opportunities and continue to develop their relationship with God. ”
