Our Dashers were positioned along the course route at aid stations for the 5K, 10K, and half marathon handing out water and Gatorade to appreciative runners. The volunteers had to meet at 6am to set up tables and fill hundreds of cups. While it was an early morning the runners really appreciate our Dasher spirit as the players cheered them on in between handing out hydration. Lacrosse
2018 marked the inaugural Varsity season for lacrosse at DSHA.  The team competed on the JV level in 2017 and expanded to a Varsity and JV team in 2018. The Varsity team’s regular season record was 7-6 in Conference play.  They moved into post-season play and were seeded 11th out of 27 teams in the State Tournament.  In the first round, they hosted the Westsiders from Madison and won 11-8 in an exciting game.  They then faced Waukesha in the next round and lost that game 4-17 to end their season.  Congratulations on a successful first Varsity season!

    Soccer
The soccer team had another outstanding season with a 6-2 Conference record which gave them a second place finish in Conference and an overall record of 10-5-3.  In post-season play the team defeated Milwaukee King in the Regional Semi-Final game 10-0 at Quad Park.  They then took on Neenah at Quad Park and lost a hard fought battle which was tied 1-1 after regulation and two ten minute overtime periods.  The teams then went to a shootout which they came up on the short end 7-8 to end their season.  Although a heartbreaking way to end the season, the team really did have a great journey of improvement and teamwork. Congratulations!

    Softball
The softball team turned in another great season. They finished 9-7 in Conference play which placed them fourth in the new nine team GMC Conference and 13-9 overall in the regular season in what was a challenging season of uncooperative weather.  In post-season play, the team defeated Milwaukee Vincent by forfeit in the Regional Semi-Final game and then went on to defeat Germantown 7-3 in the Regional Championship to claim the WIAA Regional plaque.  The team then took on Menomonee Falls in the Sectional Semi-Final and lost 0-11 to end their season. Congratulations on another exciting and successful season!

    Rugby
The rugby team, coming off a second place finish at the Midwest Rugby Tournament, traveled to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to compete in the Single School National Rugby Championships. The Dashers took on Warsaw in the quarter-finals on May 19 and won 68-0. Later that day, they competed against Kahuku, Hawaii in the semi-finals and lost a close game 24-25.  This put the team into the third place game on May 20 where they defeated Orchard Park, New York 52-7 to claim third place in the National Tournament.  Congratulations!

    Track and Field
The Varsity Track and Field team had a great season.  They broke 5 indoor and 5 outdoor school records! In the Conference meets they placed 3rd in the Indoor, 4th in the Relays and 2nd in the Outdoor which is one of the highest finishes in school history.  The team placed 3rd in the WIAA Regional and Sectional meets and competed in 8 events at the WIAA State meet on June 1st and 2nd.  Those making the podium included Jadin O’Brien who placed 2nd in the 300 Hurdles and 3rd in the Long Jump. Congratulations on a record-breaking season!

Coaches Award and Sportswoman of the Year Award

The Coaches Award has been a tradition since 1989 and is voted on by the Varsity Coaches.  It is presented to the athlete who has demonstrated sportsmanship, leadership, a good work ethic and desire in practices and game situations.

This year’s recipient is Megan Crevoiserat.  Megan has been a four year varsity starter on the soccer team and was a captain of the Varsity Soccer team her senior year.  Megan was a member of the WIAA Division 1 State Championship team her sophomore year and shared that experience with her sister Emily who was a senior.  That year she was named First Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-State.  Junior year the Varsity Soccer team won the WIAA Regional Championship and Megan was named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Area and First Team All-State, in addition to being nominated for the Journal Sentinel High School Awards for Soccer.  Senior year soccer is still in progress but if history repeats itself, I would imagine that Megan will again be named All-Conference and All-State.  She was also named a finalist for the Journal Sentinel High School Soccer Awards.

Megan was also named a Greater Metro Conference Scholar Athlete in Soccer her senior year.  She was a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Council and has demonstrated great leadership skills.  Megan truly exemplifies all of the attributes the Coaches Award is looking to acknowledge.  Megan will attend St. Louis University in the fall where she will continue her soccer career.  She will surely be missed next year but we can’t wait to hear how her soccer career continues to unfold.

The Sportswoman of the Year Award has been a tradition at DSHA since 1955.  This award is chosen by the senior class and is given to the person in the graduating class whom they feel represents their class as the best athlete.

This year’s recipient is Meghan Scott.   Meghan has been a Varsity Cross Country Runner all four years, as well as a Varsity Track and Field runner every year except junior year when she was injured for the entire season.  Freshman year she led the Cross Country team to a 2nd place finish at Sectionals and an 11th place finish at State.  She was named First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State. Sophomore year she helped the team win the first WIAA Sectional Championship and the team finished in 5th place at State.  She was named First Team All-Conference and GMC Runner of the Year for winning the Conference meet, First Team All-Area and First Team All-State.  Junior year was Meghan’s best season.  She helped lead the team to the WIAA Sectional Runner-Up and 7th place finish at State and Meghan won the WIAA Division 1 Individual State Championship.  She was also First Team All-Conference, Greater Metro Conference Runner of the Year, First Team All-Area, First Team All-State and was named the Wisconsin Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year.  Senior year Meghan led the team to a Sectional Title, 7th place finish at State and a 5th place individual finish.  She was named First Team All-Conference, GMC Runner of the Year and First Team All-State.  Due to her injury during the track and field season her junior year, she only participated in three years of varsity track.  Freshman year she was First Team All-Conference Indoor 800 meters, Second Team All-Conference Indoor 3200 meter relay, Second Team All-Conference Relays 6400 meter relay, First Team All-Conference Outdoor 3200 meter relay and Second Team All-Conference Outdoor 800 meter run.  Sophomore year she was First Team All-Conference Relays 6400 meter relay, Second Team All-Conference Relays 800 meter relay, Third Team All-Conference indoor 1600 meter run, Third Team All-Conference Indoor 3200 meter relay and Third Team All-Conference in the mile run.  Senior year Meghan was First Team All-Conference Indoor 1600 meter run, First team All-Conference Relays 1600 meter relay, and Second Team All-Conference Relays 6400 meter relay, Second Team All-Conference Outdoor 1600 meter run and First Team All-Conference Outdoor 4X400 meter relay.

Meghan was also named a Greater Metro Conference Scholar Athlete in Cross Country and Track and Field her senior year.  She truly is a tremendous athlete and her peers have recognized that in their voting for this award.  Meghan will attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall where she will compete in Cross Country and Track and Field.  She will surely be missed next year by the Cross Country and Track and Field teams and has left her mark in school history.

The Myths and Realities of College Recruiting seminar May 2
There is no magic wand involved in the college recruiting process. It requires objectivity, understanding and a proactive approach by both the parents and the student-athlete. First, you must have the recruiting knowledge and information to develop the proper recruiting game plan. Second, you must be diligent in understanding the ever-changing world of college athletics and recruiting guidelines.

This is why Midwest Collegiate Prospects has organized an educational seminar for interested parents and student-athletes. We feel that you will leave the seminar with a greater understanding of the college recruiting process and what steps you need to take to properly implement a game plan in order to be recruited to play college sports. The sooner that a college coach knows about the student-athlete – the greater the chance to be recruited.  Click here for more information.
