by Lisa Kaminski
DSHA Athletics continued its tradition of excellence this season with a series of state championship titles. Congratulations to our Dashers!
Volleyball
We'll say it three times: Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations to the DSHA Varsity Volleyball team who won their third consecutive WIAA D1 State Championship on November 9! This is the first time in WIAA history a team has managed a three-peat.
Dashers competed at the Resch Center in Green Bay and overcame Holmen in the quarterfinals (winning 25-8, 25-9, 25-11), topped Mukwonago in the semifinals (winning 25-18, 25-8, 25-15), and finally beat #2 ranked Sussex Hamilton in four sets (25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22) in the championship match.
In addition to making three-peat history, this is DSHA's sixth WIAA State Volleyball Championship and the fourth title under the leadership of Coach Caitie O’Brien Ratkowski, DSHA ‘02.
On October 27, the DSHA Rugby A-side team won the Wisconsin Girls' Rugby State tournament after defeating Catholic Memorial 21-5 at Hart Park in Wauwatosa. The B-side team took fifth place at the tournament.
This spring, Dashers will compete in their eleventh national championship. Stay tuned!
Golf
On October 15, the DSHA Varsity Golf team won the WIAA D1 State Girls Golf Championship after defeating Prescott High School by 29 strokes at University Ridge in Verona. Zoe Gryniewicz, DSHA ’27, finished fifth overall as an individual and Ava Roesch, DSHA ’26, finished seventh. The team's combined final score was 637 to Prescott's 666. This win marks DSHA as back-to-back state champions!
