2006 jubilarian of the year Mary Ellen Anderson Buellesbach HA’47
Family, faith and education have always been at the top of Mary Ellen Anderson Buellesbach’s list of priorities. A devoted wife, mother of six children and a grandmother, she has been involved in and held offices in many volunteer activities at her parish, Divine Savior Holy Angels High School and Marquette High School, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Elm Grove Woman’s Club.
A 1947 graduate of Holy Angels Academy, Mary Ellen passed along the tradition of a faith-filled education to her two daughters, Lisa Buellesbach Miller DSHA’72 and Dr. Monica Buellesbach Reynolds DSHA’78. Mary Ellen’s mother-in-law, the late Sylvia Hoyer Buellesbach, graduated from Holy Angels Academy in 1917, and her sister-in-law, Mary Jo Buellesbach Flanagan is a member of the Holy Angels Academy Class of 1947. Keeping it all in the family, Mary Ellen’s sister-in-law, S. Jane Buellesbach, MM, HA’49, was honored as Jubilarian of the Year in 1999.
Mary Ellen has been a member of the St. Mary’s Visitation Parish board of education, serving as a Marian Award leader and managing the refreshment stand in the gym for many years. During those years it would not be unusual to find the back of her car filled with supplies that she bought to replenish and continuously stock the stand.
A 1951 graduate of Marquette University, Mary Ellen is also a part-time accountant. She was a member of the DSHA board of directors from 1999 to 2006 and also enjoys travel and reading. “I am grateful that she has served her parish, community and DSHA in such an exemplary way,” said friend and nominator Kathie O’Brien Daily DS’60.
