            PARENTS ASSOCIATION  MINUTES  8/15/06

The meeting was called to order by Margaret Dunn-Watson and began with  a prayer.

Members present:   Margaret Dunn-Watson, Dan & Monica Tighe, Karen Knauf, Michele Brehm, Randy Mark, Kim Newman, Cindy Salmins, Jim Podewils, Arlisia McHenry, Sr. Virginia Honish, Ellen Bartel.

Task Force Reports:  

Treasurer:  Jim reported a positive ending balance after the 2005/2006 academic year.  It seems the Father/Daughter dinner dance was very successful last year.  New membership dues have not yet been calculated and are still coming in for the 2006/2007 academic year.

Sisters of Culture:   Arlisia reported  that the 3rd annual Sisters of Culture Picnic will take place on Sunday 8/27/06.   The time is at Dineen Park Pavilion, a D.J. has been hired and t-shirts will be distributed.  Invitations were extended to Faculty and alumni as well, Arlisia is working on building and attracting more alumni involvement with this group. Lula Mays is assisting Arlisia .

Volunteer:   Karen reported that the 2006 Wine & Cheese party will be on Tuesday 9/12/06  starting at    A postcard invitation goes out to every family at DSHA.   There are currently 29 parents signed up to volunteer for this event.  Karen will attempt to use all interested volunteers.  Ice breaking, fun activities are being planned.  Michele will be assisting Karen with this event.

Teacher’s Christmas Luncheon:  Report given by Karen for Deb Brophy, Thursday 12/7/06 is the date for the Luncheon to be held in the Fireside Lounge.  Susan Johnson will again co-chair and be in charge of decorations. Parents are being asked this year to donate baked goods for dessert.  Atlanta Bread Company will most likely cater again this year, offering soups, salads and sandwiches. Approval for $25 gift certificates for each staff member is needed, however there is a request to increase this amount if possible.

Parent/Student Service:   Linda Goeden was unable to attend, Kim provided an update on new service opportunities with St. Anne’s in Milwaukee.   Kim has been in contact with Kathy LaFrance of St. Anne’s who indicated there are several opportunities for Parent/Student Service within the organization.   A flyer with details will be forthcoming from this committee .

Sub & Substance:  Kim reported that agendas and details of the  2 Sub & Substance events are being worked on.  She will be in contact with the previous Chair people from this committee for assistance in planning.  The dates have been set,  as have general topic areas to be covered.  Sue Foley  and Nancy Hansen were unable to attend.

New Business:  The Parent Association is still in need of a Secretary,  please spread the word.  A decision will be made on raising the gift certificate amount for the staff after further  investigation of the budget surplus. The majority of the group is certainly in favor of this increase .
