Department Philosophy

The Science Department strives to respect each student and recognizes her need for intellectual, spiritual, and social development.

The Science Department will help each student foster an appreciation of the physical phenomena of the world we live in as well as an understanding of the biological world and man's place in it and her responsibility to it.

An important aspect of science is the scientific way of thinking. This involves approaching problems in a well organized, common sense fashion which not only helps solve technical problems but also produces new ideas and concepts.  This systematic approach to solving problems, which involves an understanding of what already has been done in the area and an analytical evaluation of new material revealed about the problem, is referred to as the scientific method and is a useful tool in dealing with all problems.
