Department Philosophy
The purpose of the Art Department is to provide, through a low-risk, success-oriented environment, a series of developmental experiences that encourage and reinforce the processes of critical thinking: observation, perception, imagination, cognition, incubation, action, and problem solving. General Course Goals
The art program consists of studio courses in which lecture, demonstration and work with the individual student provide the main instructional format. The goal of each specialized course is for the student to develop a working degree of skills and techniques in the selected art media. Students are encouraged to attend art exhibits at a variety of Milwaukee area galleries. Faculty

Acting I*, II* III*
Theatre Production Apprenticeships
Summer Musical Theatre Production
Scene Design and Stage Painting*
Stagecraft
Theatre Course Descriptions
Come experience the world of theatre through involvement in various areas of production. Whether you are musically inclined, technically talented, or an actress, there is a place in the DSHA theatre program. DSHA offers an Acting I* class first semester and an Acting II* class second semester. Both classes include voice, movement, improvisation and scene study. Acting III* is offered second semester for serious advanced students who become the cast of the second spring production. Stagecraft is a ‘hands-on’ course that uses the state of the art light and sound technology in the Robert and Marie Hansen Family Fine Arts Theatre. Scenic Design and Stage Painting provides students with instruction and skill development in realizing a director' concepts for a full theatre season at DSHA. Theatre Production Apprenticeships* are available to a limited number of students involving stage management, directing and technical theatre. Students will be expected to work extracurricular hours and staff the current productions.
Productions
During the fall, you can enjoy performing in the annual musical, open to all of our students through audition. Besides the musical, we produce two dramas each spring, one is open to all students, the second is cast from the Acting III course. Our very popular course, Summer Musical Theatre Production, results in another fully-staged musical. All of these major productions require a variety of “behind-the-scenes” personnel. If backstage production work appeals to you, we have a job for you to fill: stage crew, costumes, make-up, props, publicity and house management, to name a few.
