DSHA students performs one-woman show Monica Mark portrays 24 different characters in The Syringa Tree
Milwaukee - In a performance that would be challenging for even the most seasoned actor, Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA) senior Monica Mark of Wauwatosa will star in the award-winning one-woman show, The Syringa Tree, to be presented Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. in DSHA’s Robert and Marie Hansen Family Fine Arts Theatre at 4257 North 100th Street, Milwaukee. This is the first one-woman show to be performed at DSHA.
Mark, 17, will be portraying twenty-four different characters in this Obie Award winning drama about growing up in apartheid South Africa. The Syringa Tree is told through the voice of a child trying to make sense out of the chaos, magic and darkness of Johannesburg during the 1960s. By transforming from black to white, from old to young, from Xhosa to Afrikaans to Zulu to Jewish, she reveals the complexities of her characters' dreams, struggles, losses, and laughter.
Tickets are $5 students and $8 for adults and can be purchased by calling the DSHA Box Office at 414-616-2813.
