Milwaukee, WI – Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA) students of German placed first at the German Day competition at UW-Madison on April 22. This is the third consecutive year that the team has placed first and the second consecutive year they have achieved a perfect score in all events, a feat that has never occurred in the history of the competition. DSHA competed against 36 Wisconsin high schools. The following students were part of the team: sophomores Edna Basurto, Brooke Lange and Adrienne Ognacevic, all from Milwaukee, and Caroline Mosley, of West Bend; juniors Astrid Stuth, from Hubertus and Catherine Procknow, from Elm Grove and seniors Zoe Lindberg, from Wauwatosa, and Valerie Agee and Allison Rogowski, from Milwaukee.

Astrid Stuth was awarded first place and $500 for her entry in the State of Wisconsin Essay Contest. The German Language and School Society of Wisconsin sponsor the essay contest for students who are in their third year of study or above. A total of 427 essays from 26 schools were submitted for the contest. She also received $500 for being awarded the Rudolph and Helga Kaden Award, which was established to “promote German language, culture and customs in the State of Wisconsin.”

Edna Basurto and Caroline Mosley participated at Level II in the regional American Association of Teachers of German Speaking Contest and advanced to the State competition. Edna placed second.
