Milwaukee– Sixty-two Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) students, including a foreign exchange student from Norway, brought the Catholic Schools Week motto, “Faith In Every Student,” to life by donating 10 inches or more of their hair to the Locks of Love organization, benefiting young children suffering from permanent hair loss. The donations occurred in an all school assembly entitled “The Annual Hair Affair” on Monday, January 31. Professional stylists from Studio 890 in Elm Grove donated their time to cut and style the participants’ hair.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the U.S. under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. They meet a unique need for children throughout the United States by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses they provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. Donated hair must be 10” minimum from tip to tip.
